Formula 500

Jaimie McKinlay

Formula 500's as the name implies, are cars with engines of 500cc. Well, actually, they aren't. Back in the day when big motorcycle engines were 500cc they were used in the early F500 cars. Things have moved on a bit and F500 cars are now allowed to run 600cc engines and so take advantage of the huge supply of four cylinder SuperSport motorcycle engines. With an impressive aero package, these cars are screamingly fast, the drivers barely lifting off in the corners while their Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki engines rev to 11-12000 RPM. They may be small, but, on the smaller tracks, they are nearly as fast as a sprintcar.
